Hiring: People Helping People Food Pantry Manager

Report: Director to People Helping People

Full time: 40 hours

Salary:  Commensurate with experience


Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

·      Place orders for food and supplies from a number of sources, including but not limited to the Greater Boston Food Bank, retail stores, wholesalers, and other nonprofits

·      Ensure that transportation and volunteers are lined up to transport, receive, record, date-check, organize and shelve orders and donations

·      Keeping inventory up to date

·      Supervise a rotating crew of volunteers, including but not limited to orienting new volunteers, providing job descriptions, task lists, training and support as needed

·      Maintain pantry order and cleanliness. Manage appliances and other equipment. Help with building maintenance

·      Work with Pantry Director to decide weekly food availability and client shopping lists

·      Field calls and emails from clients, the general public, businesses and organizations

·      Help prepare monthly and annual reports for the PHP Board of Directors and partner organizations

·      Support other staff members as needed

·      Participate in public events

·      Provide data, stories and information for website, social media and press releases as needed

·      Other responsibilities as indicated by the Pantry Director



·      1-3 years of experience in a food pantry is preferred

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

·      Excellent communication, problem solving and people skills

·      Ability to work a flexible work schedule (some evening and occasional weekend hours)

·      Ability to lift 30-50 lbs

·      Experience recruiting, training, supervising and/or monitoring volunteers

·      Ability to organize work with multiple responsibilities and tasks

·      Commitment to non-discrimination, sensitivity and respect for all people

·      Ability to interpret food pantry policies and state and local guidelines
